MINUTES

July 27, 2006

This informal meeting was called to order by President Richard Anderson at 7:05 p.m.  There were ten members present.

The purpose of this meeting was to make a decision concerning a bigger trailer for hauling band instruments and equipment.  There are close to 150 kids (60 freshmen and 15-20 seniors) in the band now, and many more large instruments, trombones in particular.

George Bundy has located a company that builds large trailers—20’ long plus a “wedge” nose, 7’ wide, with a 48” side door, two side wall vents, two roof vents, two dome lights, aluminum sheathing on the lower sides, Z-track inside, an awning on the side away from the door (to provide shade for setting up tailgate meals and water coolers), and a fold-down back tailgate.  The cost of a trailer like this is approximately $7,200 including shipping charges.  The Booster Club has agreed to donate $4,000 (after the first or second football game), and the school district will contribute $1,500.  This leaves MPA with a balance of about $1,700 (plus the cost of a spare tire, if that is needed).  The trailer will be owned by MPA and the school district, with the school agreeing to provide insurance, maintenance, etc.  MPA will write a check to the school district for $4,000 and the school will cover the rest for now.  Then, when we’ve received the Booster Club money, we can give the school the rest of our share.

We discussed the printing/logo on the sides, but nothing definite was decided.  We know for sure we’ll have “Pirate Pride Band” on it, and it will need a school district logo as well.  We also talked about putting something on it to acknowledge the Booster Club’s participation.

We talked about where it can be parked on days when it needs to be loaded, but nothing definite was decided.  When not in use it will be parked behind the Central Office.

George has some ideas about instrument carts that could be wheeled into the trailer and transported that way.

The old trailer will be used for uniforms, food and water.

A Motion to purchase the new trailer was made by Jim Poole, seconded by Linda Jenkins.  The Motion passed.

Mr. Jones mentioned the joint show with Northwest Missouri State on Sunday, November 5.  In an effort to encourage lots of support in Maryville, he may charter a couple of buses to transport parents who want to go.

The end-of-camp potluck will be on Friday, August 11, at the new Middle School.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 p.m.  The next meeting will be on Monday, August 7, at 7:00 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted,
