Staff Report:  Dr. Jones & Mr. Bonsignore had asked Syl Washington if MPA could fund the first half of the Leadership Camp.  The dates are 7/19-20 at Camp Shawnee and approximately 44-45 students are signed up.  The cost to MPA would be $650.00.  Marion Poole motioned to pay the expense.  Seconded and passed.

Department Reports:

Color Guard:  No Report.

Instrumental Department:  No Report.

Jazz Band:  No Report.

Committee Reports:

Booster Club:  Syl Washington requested that we need volunteers to help stock the snack shop this year.

Communications:  No Report

Membership:  Ruth Wilson reported that there would be membership sign-up at enrollment.  It was decided to send a letter to all the incoming Freshmen about MPA and important band information.  Two committees were formed to accomplish this. One committee to compose the letter: Syl Washington and Ruth Wilson.  One committee to create the packets of information and get them ready to hand out at Band Camp: Susan Anderson, Marion Poole, Ruth Wilson, and Kim Shults.

Trailers/Transportation:  It was agreed upon that the MPA would donate the band trailers to the school district.  Syl Washington and Richard Anderson will be discussing this decision with Dr. Harpst along with insurance coverage for the trailer.

Awards/Recognition:  There is a committee putting together Freshman award bags to give the Freshman at the End of Band Camp Pot Luck Dinner.

Mrs. Hisel had made a request to Syl Washington if MPA could pay for the music patches for the New York City trip.  Marion Poole motioned to pay for the patches.
Seconded and passed.

Home Tailgates:

8/10 – 6:00 p.m. – End of Camp Pot Luck Dinner

10/5 – Homecoming

10/26 – Light Show

There was some discussion on what to do for food during home tailgates.  No decision has been made.

Uniforms:  Dr. Jones has decided to purchase new shoulder capes for all band members and full capes for the Drum Majors.  This will be at no expense to MPA.

Ways & Means:  There were some Pirate Cards leftover from last year.  Sharon Breslow motioned to lower the price of the Pirate Card to $5.00 to try and get rid of them.  Seconded and passed.

Old Busness:  Nothing discussed.

New Business:  Transportation of the equipment and uniforms to Florida for the June 2008 trip was discussed.  Gina Lemasters had received a quote from Ken Pratt Trucking Company of around $5,000 round trip.  This is something the committee will have to look into further.  No decisions were made.

Syl Washington announced that the majority of the expenses for full time Chaperones’ on the trip would be tax deductible with authentication (receipts). Dr. Jones has agreed to approach the travel agency for such a breakdown.

Syl Washington mentioned that the Quarterback Club would be selling black shirts on Senior Night (10/26) advertised as “Blackout Night”.   There was some discussion for what MPA could do to raise money that night.  No decisions made.

There was some discussion of creating a “Water Chairperson” to help with getting water on the field for band members.

There was discussion about signing up MPA for Tax Exempt.  Syl Washington was going to look further into this.

The next MPA meeting will be Monday, August 6, at 7:00 p.m.  A Motion to adjourn was made by Lisa Levi.  Seconded and passed.  Meeting adjourned at 8:00 a.m.

Respectfully Submitted,

Dawn Atkin
