MINUTES

April 10, 2006

The meeting was called to order by President Richard Anderson at 7:10 p.m.  There were 12 members present.  The Minutes for the March meeting were accepted as transmitted by e-mail.

Treasurer’s Report:  Pat Brune reported she closed out the Color Guard account ($244.49) and reimbursed Richard Anderson for the storage tubs he bought ($107.17).  The closing balance was $6,472.75.  She itemized expenses on her report.

Department Reports:

Jazz Band:  Mr. Bonsignore mentioned the Penn Valley Jazz Festival on March 31.  The students outscored all the other bands there, and got first place in 4A schools.  The Evening of Jazz is scheduled for May 5.  Stacy is making cards to send to Friends of the Arts members, the school Board, teachers and Administration, inviting them.  Ads for the program are being sold.  Tickets ($4/$2 student) are for sale by jazz members and at the door.  Platte Valley Bank will donate $400, servers, decorations and bottled water.  We still need people to help decorate.

Instrumental Department:  Mr. Jones mentioned the Spring concert, which is scheduled for May 9.  The Awards Banquet is May 11.

There are 56 8th-graders from PCMS and 9 to 11 8th-graders from Barry School enrolled or planning to enroll for 2006-07.  Stacy has the letter for the 8th-graders done.  Seventeen seniors will graduate. The band did well at District contest.  Seventeen solos/ensembles got I ratings and will go on to State.  They’ll leave on April 27 after school so they can be in Columbia for the April 28 contest.

Committee Reports:

Ways and Means:  Syl Washington said thank you to everyone who has helped with MPA duties this year.

Home Tailgates:  The Awards Banquet will be on Thursday, May 11, 6:30 p.m. in the north cafeteria.  It will be potluck.  Every family needs to bring a main dish, with the rest of the food being split up by last name.  We discussed the cake for the seniors and decided that a half sheet cake would be enough.

Communications:  Stacy Evans said the 8th-grade letter will go out.  Mr. Jones said it would be nice to have an attractive flyer sent with the letter.  He has a disc with a flyer that was made previously that could be updated.  The website is looking better.

Trailer/Transportation:  The trailer will be needed for hauling things to the KCI Expo Center for graduation.  It will be loaded Friday, May 12th.  Mr. Jones said the large flag needs to be put on the trailer or needs to “find a home” elsewhere.

Old Business:

The storage tubs were purchased by Richard Anderson.  Mr. Jones has already loaded and labeled them.

Sharron Breslow will take on the project of making senior yard signs, and will need a committee to help her.

Karen Jacobs is heading up a committee of five that will work on a “points of clarification” document that would serve as an Addendum to our Bylaws.  She handed out a list of ideas that she and Mr. Jones had talked about.  That committee (Karen, Richard Anderson, Pat Brune, Ron Wilson and Syl Washington) will meet at 7:00 p.m. on April 20th at Karen’s house.  They’ll report back at the May MPA meeting.

New Business:

An Audit Committee is needed.  George Bundy and Kim Shults were appointed, and they’ll get the audit done sometime before the June MPA meeting.

Syl Washington reported on behalf of the Nominating Committee.  The following have agreed to serve:

            Richard Anderson – President

            Syl Washington – Vice-President

            Ruth Wilson – Secretary

            Pat Brune – Treasurer

            Stacy Evans – Communications

Linda Jenkins – Awards and Recognition

Ron and Kim Shults/George and Patty Bundy – Trailer/Transportation

Ways and Means – Syl and Sara Washington

Tailgates (both home and away) – open

These people will be voted on at the May 8th MPA meeting.

Adjournment:  The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted,

Ruth Wilson

MPA Secretary
