MINUTES
March 12, 2007

The meeting was called to order by Vice-President Sylvester Washington at 7:02 p.m.  There were 13 MPA members present.  The Minutes from the January meeting were accepted as transmitted (there was no February meeting, due to inclement weather).

Treasurer’s Report:  Pat Brune reported a beginning balance of $5,223.70, total deposits of $630.00, total expenses of $718.30, and an ending balance of $5,135.40.

Department Reports:

Band:  Dr. Jones said the Solo and Ensemble schedule is being put together to go home in the next week or so.  On March 30, Large Ensemble will be held at Park Hill South at 5:00 p.m.  The Fund raiser is due to be delivered the 22nd to the 24th.  Dr. Jones reminded everyone that the fundraiser items are perishable and thus must be taken home immediately.  The Orlando trip now has a total of 227 people signed up to go, consisting of 169 students, 43 adults, and 15 siblings.  Dr. Jones believes that we will need at least 5 charter busses for the trip.  He also discussed a fundraiser in which trash bags are “personalized” for groups (he showed the MPA members an example solid orange car trash bag with a logo on it).  He said that all fundraisers will be going into individual student’s accounts for the trip, so that the MPA and the Band need to be aware of this and consider whether MPA needs a fundraiser and if he will need a fundraiser for the Band next year.  Dr. Jones is moving on April 6th weekend and requested use of the new trailer to move his household goods into storage.  A motion was made by Sylvester Washington and approved by the MPA membership to give Dr. Jones use of the trailer to move his household goods.

Jazz Band:  Mr. Bonsignore said the Spring Concert was March 6.  An Evening of Jazz is coming up and they will need parents to help out passing out programs, in the kitchen, etc.  Stephanie Walker and Stacy Evans are already helping and anyone who wishes to help may contact Stacy Evans or Mr. Bonsignore.  Stacy Evans sent out invitations to al teachers of members of Fine Arts to invite them to the Evening of Jazz, which is to be held in the S Annex Gym, Friday, May 4.  Jazz Band took First Place at Northwest on Sunday.  Concert band is moving forward.  The music chosen, a Holsinger piece is difficult and everyone is working on it.  Contest performance is Thursday March 29 with warm up at 6:15 p.m. and performance at 6:40, sight reading at 7:05.  They will be performing with 2A bands.  He has not decided what time they will be leaving.  He will send a letter home when he has further details.  March 22 is the tentative date for pre-contest performance.  Solos and ensembles will also play that day to give them practice.  March 24 is the Solo and Ensemble contest at Liberty High School.

Color Guard:  No report.

Committee Reports:

Booster Club:  Sylvester Washington said there was nothing to report.

Membership:  No report.

Communications:  No report.

Trailer/Transportation:  No report.

Awards/Recognition:  Linda Jenkins showed the plaque for Northwest Grand Championship.  She requested that everyone send in pictures for the photo album.

Home Tailgates:  Marion Poole reminded everyone that the end of the year Banquet will be held at the Middle School cafeteria sometime in May.  Dr. Jones said he will contact Mr. Hart and confirm the date.

Away Tailgates:  Nora Bean said there was nothing to report.

New Business:  The By-Laws Committee reported their discussion of the timing of elections of new officers in the past had not allowed for recruitment.  Sylvester Washington said that we need to select a nominating committee tonight because we will need a new President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer for next year.  He mentioned that it would be helpful to have committee chairs filled too.  Mr. Bonsignore asked if a recruitment letter been sent out to help spread word to new freshmen parents.  Pat Brune said that Stacy Evans had sent one last year, and Sylvester Washington said he will talk to Stacy about sending out one for next year.  Pat Brune nominated Susan Anderson for the Nominating Committee.  Sylvester Washington and Pat Brune were nominated for the Nominating Committee.  Jim Poole made a motion to approve the nominations, it was seconded and all present voted to accept the Nominating Committee of Susan Anderson, Pat Brune, and Sylvester Washington.

Old Business:  We started the year with 400 Pirate Cards to sell.  There are 197 left.  All members are asked to try to sell these remaining cards.
The Trailer Committee still needs a way to transport the instruments to Florida in 2008.
The large Pirate Flag (stored in the trailer) was requested for the final R.O.C.K. assembly.  Parents will be needed to help hold this flag as it is very large.

Adjournment:  The meeting was adjourned at 7:35 p.m.  The next meeting will be Monday, April 16.
