MINUTES

November 13, 2006

The meeting was called to order by President Richard Anderson at 7:03 p.m.  There were 32 members present.  A Motion was made (Keith Robinson) and seconded (Tom Knopp) to accept the Minutes for the October 9th meeting.  Motion passed.

Treasurer’s Report:  Pat Brune reported the beginning balance was $5,650.45, and the ending balance was $5,626.17.

Department Reports:

Jazz Band:  Mr. Bonsignore reported that All-District Jazz Band rehearsal will be here in Platte City on November 15th.  The concert will be November 18th in Maryville.  The Jazz Band district tour (Barry School, Paxton and PCMS) will be December 15th.  All-State Jazz Band auditions are scheduled for December 2nd.  Jazz Band needs a new amplifier for the keyboard (about $589, discounted).  A Motion was made and passed that MPA pay for this.

Band:  Dr. Jones reported that the trailers may need to be moved from their parking spot because it’s obvious people have been drinking beer behind them during football games.  Uniforms are not being taken care of.  Shoes are a problem—a lot of kids have had theirs stolen, and there are many “single” shoes in the big tubs.  The directors are tired of the constant barrage of kids lacking pieces of uniforms (shoes, socks, gloves).  Space for dressing is an issue as the band gets larger.  We discussed having the kids check out their uniforms, take them home, and come to football games already in uniform.  Next fall there will probably be a demerit system for misbehavior.

Dr. Jones thanked everyone for their help throughout the marching season.  He asked for input about the future and where the band should be in years to come.  All-District Band is scheduled for December 9th, the Concert Band will perform on December 10th, and the PCMS Band concert will be December 13th.   Auditions for the Wind Ensemble and Concert Band will be on December 19th.  MPA will feed the audition judges.

We talked about the wreath fundraiser.

Color Guard:  Mrs. Larson said there are a lot of kids interested in Color Guard for next year.  Recruiting is being done at Barry School and PCMS.  Tryouts will be in April.  She’ll implement a physical fitness program.

Student Teacher:  Ms. Lipiec said the drum line will perform at Siegrist and, perhaps, at some basketball games.

Booster Club Liaison:  Syl Washington reported a need for concession helpers for upcoming games.

Committee Reports:

Membership:  Susan Anderson said membership is now 84.  Premier Incentives joined recently.

Communications:  Stacy Evans said the bulk mailing did not work out—things will need to be sent out by e-mail.

Trailer/Transportation:  The old trailer needs some refurbishing.  It will cost about $1,400 to remove decals, sandblast, repaint, put on new decals and caulk.  We should also take out the old carpet at the same time.  A Motion was made (George Bundy) and seconded (Keith Robinson) to pay for this work.  Motion Passed.  Special thanks go to the parents who helped load and unload during marching season.

Awards/Recognition:  The Grand Championship plaque was mentioned.  The font size will need to be changed or more columns made.  Chris Whalen is making patches.

Home Tailgates:  Marion Poole thanked those who helped at the dinners.  There were 259 people at the Senior Night dinner.  The extra food was taken to a food kitchen for the needy, and some was used for the Maryville trip.  Plans are to feed our directors and the audition judges Subway sandwiches on December 19th.

Away Tailgates:  Nora Bean thanked the people who helped feed the kids while on the road.  She asked that people take their dishes and pans that are in the gray tub.

Ways & Means:  Susan Anderson has more Pirate cards.  We’re still waiting for the antique show check.

Old Business:

Uniform Repairs - There are a few buttons that need to be sewed back on.  Members will meet after adjournment to look over the uniforms for possible repairs.  Dr. Jones went to Premier Dry Cleaners.  The shop is very clean, and the owner is very picky about clothes being clean when they go out from there.  The uniforms will probably be cleaned in several batches, after the winter concert so that the dry cleaners can take their time and do a good job.  These uniforms are about nine years old—uniforms being made now are “wash and wear” and very expensive.  Next year we’ll need around 40 more.

By-Laws Committee - Contact Susan Anderson if you want to help on this committee.

New Business:

Group Picture – The kids’ faces are too small to recognize.  Richard Anderson will contact Photographic Images on behalf of MPA.

Lighting Ceremony – Paxton Singers and Sound Express will sing at this event.

Adjournment:  The meeting was adjourned at 8:14 p.m.  There will not be a December meeting, so the next meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 2007.

Respectfully Submitted,
