MINUTES

January 9, 2006

The meeting was called to order by President Richard Anderson at 7:01 p.m. There were 34 people present. The Minutes from November’s meeting were accepted as transmitted by e-mail. (There was no December meeting.)

Treasurer’s Report: Pat Brune reported there is $1,095.97 in the checking account. She has closed out the Jazz Band account, and that money is now being handled through the school district. The balance in the savings account is $4,711.86. Two thousand dollars of this will need to be moved to the checking account to pay for the trailer. She said that, since we’re a non-profit organization, we shouldn’t have a savings account. A Motion was made and passed to move the savings account money to checking. The Color Guard account was discussed. Erik Bayer paid for camp directly from the money earned at the car wash. It was noted that all money needs to be given to the Treasurer for deposit so that she can keep record of all money coming in and going out.

Department Reports:

Vocal Department: Sound Express is going to competition in Chicago in May. A parents’ meeting has been held. A fundraiser will be conducted since the cost will be over $500 per student. MPA will support Sound Express in any way they can.

Color Guard: Erik Bayer reported that Winter Guard is working on a routine for a basketball game half-time. A Motion was made and passed to purchase four more rifles at a cost of about $145.

Instrumental Department: Mr. Jones reported sectionals are going well. The harpist he has hired will be at the rehearsal on Saturday. Flyers about the January 19th concert were passed out. The band has 25 minutes for their performance at MMEA, so the music needs to be timed precisely at this concert. The MMEA programs will be available for the parents. A bouquet of flowers will be sent to Mrs. Miles, who worked on putting the program together.

Two students made All-State Band or Orchestra, so they will travel to Tan-Tar-A with Mr. Jones on Wednesday, January 25. The truck will be loaded on Wednesday, and Richard Anderson knows of a hangar it can be stored in overnight. Mr. Jones explained the timetable for MMEA, and people volunteered for chaperoning the kids, handing out programs, etc. The performance is at 11:45 a.m. The school will pay for lunch at The Pasta House and the buses should be back in Platte City by 8:00 p.m.

The performance will be recorded and CD’s and DVD’s will be available later at group rates. The band website can be accessed at: http://pcpirateband.tripod.com/. Right now it’s in skeleton form.

Jazz Band: Mr. Bonsignore reported that this band will go to several jazz festivals: February 25, Central Missouri State; March 3 or 4, KU; and March 11, Northwest Missouri State. We may not do a jazz concert with Belton this year.

Committee Reports:

Membership: No report.

Newsletter/Communication: No report.

Trailer/Transportation: No report other than that mentioned previously regarding the Tan-Tar-A trip.

Ways and Means: The check from Wal-Mart has been delayed.

Awards/Recognition: Grand Championship patches have been handed out. The Grand Championship plaque is on display.

Home Tailgates: There will be a reception for the band on January 19th after the concert. Stephanie Walker will make the punch at her house and it will be mixed here. We’ll use MPA funds to pay for punch supplies, etc. ($100-150). Set-up will be in the new foyer at 6:00 p.m. The joint dinner plans with the North Platte music parents will be discussed at the next meeting.

Away Tailgates: No report.

Other Agenda items will be brought up at the next meeting, February 13, 7:00 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted,

Ruth Wilson
