Platte County R-3 High School Music Parents Association

Minutes of  September 8, 2008 Meeting

 

The meeting was called to order by President Linda Jenkins at 7:05pm.

 

Members present: Brenda Bryant, Amy Bredeson, Dianna Cassidy, Lisa Alexander, Monica and Russ Sickman, Deb Jordan, Laura Hagenbuch, Tom and Belinda Knopp, Elizabeth Hanman, Ruth Wilson, Linda Hill, Syl Washington, Christy Ogden, Anna Cooper, Christine Savage, Lesa Levi, Cindy McGinnis, Linda Jenkins, Jennifer Magee, Dr. Jones, and Mr. Bonsignore.

 

Minutes-A motion was made by Jennifer Magee to approve the minutes of the August 11th meeting, and seconded by Dianna Cassidy. Motion carried.

 

Treasurer’s Report- Ms. Magee reported that the beginning balance was $1,876.75 and the ending balance as of August 31, 2008 was $5,040.27. She also reported that twelve students have not paid their MPA fees.

 

Dr. Jones’ Report- Dr. Jones reported that several uniforms still need to be altered. T-shirts are here. There are extra t-shirts for $15. There also are free DVDs of the Orlando trip. The platforms have been finished by Mr. Robinson. Shoes and gloves have been ordered. The first competition will be Sept. 20th at Raytown and our band will perform at 2pm.

 

Mr. Bonsignore’s Report-The Jazz Band Fall Concert is Thursday, Oct. 16th at 7pm. All District Band Concert is November 22nd. All District Band tryouts are November 1st. Swimmers who are trying out for all district band can go first and then head to their swim meet as long as they have a note from their parent.

 

Color Guard Report- Their fundraiser walk- a- thon will be September 19th.

 

Committee Reports

 

Membership-We have 93 member families.

Trailer-Russ Sickman inquired whether trailers could be moved to be worked on. Dr. Jones approved this action.

Home Tailgates-Taco Bar this Friday. Last week MPA fed 157 kids and parents.

Away tailgates-Ms. Hagenbuch inquired how many people to prepare away meals for. Dr. Jones told her that there are 167 people which includes all students, directors, and bus drivers.

Ways and Means-Several ideas have been discussed. Committee will meet decide upon fundraiser by next month’s meeting.

Uniforms-Still need someone to chair this committee.

Water- An effort is being made to locate twenty cases donated by Pepsi which were delivered to the school.

Webmaster-Syl Washington will update officer and staff lists, dates for competitions, shows and auditions. Needs pictures.

 

Old Business-

Parent Handbook-Jenkins reported that the Parent Handbooks are ready.

Budget-Ms. Magee presented a proposed 2008-2009 budget. Motion was made by Lesa Levi and seconded by Elizabeth Hanman to approve budget. Motion carried.

Sr. Signs-Ms. Jenkins reported that the senior banners cost $811.40($35.28 each). Twenty three banners were printed. There was one misspelling and that banner will be reprinted. Motion made by Tom Knopp and seconded by Linda Hill for senior parents to pay $15.00 of their child’s banner and MPA will pay the remaining cost or a total of $466.70. Motion Passed.

Country Mart- Chrisy Ogden will check on the whereabouts of the Country Mart check.

 

New Business-

Antique Show is October 18th and 19th. Cecilia Deterding has agreed to schedule volunteers for the gates.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 8:10pm.
